This new unit of competency is designed for educators and staff working within an education and care setting who are required to respond to a first aid emergency, including asthmatic and anaphylactic emergencies. The Australian Children’s Education & Care has endorsed HLTAID004 as satisfying all educator requirements for first aid, anaphylaxis management and emergency asthma training.

Prerequisites
Online learning modules – 2-3 hours e-learning.

Using e-learning resources, participants cover the required theory for both CPR and First Aid components. These modules are designed so participants can complete the theory content before attending their practical training session. This allows participants to complete the theory at their own pace and will have an opportunity to print out a certificate of completion of all modules.

1. CPR
2. Asthma Awareness
3. Fracture management and skin injuries
4. Anaphylaxis
5. Control of external bleeding
6. Medical Conditions

Course Duration
One day face to face practical training. This day is used to provide students with additional information, answers participants questions, demonstrate techniques and undertake practical scenarios.

Assessment Method
Assessments include a written multi-choice exam, practical assessment including CPR, a case studies and scenario assessments. The scenario’s reflect the environment where the learnt first aid skills and knowledge would be performed.
