The Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care gives access to a good position in many child-care related services. It will you provide you with an advanced understanding of many facets of childcare, early childhood education and development.

The ECEC (Early Childhood Education and Care) Diploma provides students with the competencies and knowledge required to work with children under the age of five in licensed preschools and daycare centres. Education courses in the diploma meet the requirements of the Early Childhood Educator Registry for the ECE License to
Practice; Infant/Toddler License to Practice and/or the Special Needs License to Practice. Students who successfully complete an ECCE diploma are eligible to apply to
the degree program.

Three core threads, Curriculum, Childhoods and Leadership ,Advocacy, represent the focus of the education courses offered in the degree. These threads are woven throughout the degree inviting students to engage in critical-reflective practice, working to create classrooms of social justice and equity for children and families.

The diploma course covers play support, health and safety, child development, early childhood education, childcare and centre management, behaviour management, staff support, leadership and working with parents and the community. It contains 15 core units of competency at the Certificate III level and 12 core and
5 elective units of competency at the Diploma level. The 2-year course consists of 1680 hours of which 444 hours are work placement.

The course qualifies you as an early childhood educator, childcare worker, childcare program manager, group or team leader. Gaining more work experience enables you to be qualified as a childcare co-ordinator or centre manager.

There is a high demand for this qualification. From January 2014, at least 50% of child carers in Australian childcare centres must possess the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care.
